This was my second time photographing a live event for my school's student programming board, and I couldn't be more thrilled as I get more into the hang of it all! Our Homecoming comedy show, Laugh Riot, featured comedians Adam Devine, from Workaholics and Pitch Perfect, and Brooks Wheelan, from Saturday Night Live and the voice of Fred in Big Hero 6.
This event was very different from my first event, the Misterwives concert, because I did not have the freedom to run back and forth in the pit and take pictures from every angle. I had to be very courteous and try not to make myself seen as I took pictures from a distance. Because I was stationed further away, I used a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm 1:4-5.6G ED lens. Its zoom range is very versatile, and I really haven't used it a lot. While I liked that I could still get close-ups of the comedians from far away, I do not think they are as high-quality as the pictures I took with the lens I used for Misterwives. While it was more difficult to get good photographs, I'm happy that I was able to adjust to the circumstances and still capture some pretty funny expressions from Adam (when I wasn't laughing uncontrollably). He even looked my way a few times, and I was able to get a few pics of him looking at the camera!
The coolest thing about this experience was that Adam actually tweeted the photo I took of him hugging our school's mascot (scroll down to see)! I always post 4 pictures on Twitter as a little recap, and I think it's funny that he took the time to save the picture from my original tweet and then post it for his own tweet. Regardless, I think it's super cool and I'm still shook.
Reminder: These photos are unedited in order to accurately document my photography process.
